Next 'Dyke March' to Be Held in Saudi Arabia

Brilliant send-up (below) of the recent controversy surrounding the Chicago dyke march evicting participants with Gay Pride flags with Stars of David on them.

As I've posted elsewhere, you needn't be anti-Semitic to acknowledge Israel has some horrific policies. But banning Jewish Gay Pride flags at a dyke march is bullshit -- and anti-Semitic -- through and through.

The Mideast Beast writes:
Saying that the presence of Jewish pride flags at this year’s event “made people feel unsafe,” organizers of Chicago’s ‘Dyke March’ announced that next year’s event will be moved to Saudi Arabia.
“The fact that Jews were trying to march in our parade really triggered a lot of our marchers,” one of the event’s organizers told The Mideast Beast. “But thankfully, Saudi Arabia has created a ‘safe space’ where we won’t have to worry about any Zionists infiltrating our movement.”
The march’s organizers did have to make some concessions to their Saudi hosts. Women, for example, will have to be fully covered from head to toe. And although the parade has traditionally celebrated gay pride, all homosexual references or thoughts will be strictly banned.
“That’s a small price to pay for the right to march in a tolerant country with no problematic Jews,” the organizer noted. “We commend Saudi Arabia – along with Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Egypt and Morocco – for creating Zionist-free safe spaces.”

Splendor in the Grass

While joking about lesbians on the women's tennis and golf tours has been around since, well, the formation of women's tennis and golf tours, my friend Tim Teeman learned there was a lot of living on the down-low back in the day when he caught up with the widow of record-holding golf champion Sandra Spuzich, winner of the 1966 U.S. Women's Open, who died last month. In this moving interview, Joyce Kazmierski recalls their relationship, sexism in golf and the secrecy of lesbian life on tour. Read HERE.

Mauresmo announces she is pregnant

Didn't see this one coming.

Via Reuters:
Amelie Mauresmo, the former Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, is pregnant, the Frenchwoman said on Thursday. France Fed Cup captain Mauresmo, 35, announced the news on her Twitter feed. "Baby will be here in August! #pregnant So happy," former world number one Mauresmo, who won both her grand slam titles in 2006, wrote. Mauresmo, who retired in 2009, has been coaching men's world number three Andy Murray since June, 2014.
Congrats!

Fish Tales

"In Bed With Gore Vidal" scribe Tim Teeman has an intriguing new piece in the New York Times about "Blue Is the Warmest Color," whose seven-minute sex scene -- featuring two women slapping each other’s breasts, pulling each other’s hair, scissoring bodies, mounting and dismounting -- is said to be among the most graphic and physically intense depictions of lesbian lovemaking on film. But the scene -- starring two straight women directed by a straight man -- isn't ringing true to many lesbians. Julie Maroh, the French on whose graphic novel of the same name the film was based. is one of them. On her blog in May, she described the scene as “a brutal and surgical display” that turned the lovemaking between two women “into porn.” Not everyone agrees with her, however. And leave it to a gay man to try to get to the bottom of the controversy. Read HERE.
