Song of the Day: 'I'm Gonna Love You Too' by Buddy Holly

First time seeing this picture sleeve for this Buddy Holly cover that what was actually the lead single off Blondie's "Parallel Lines." It wasn't a hit -- unlike when they reworked Randy and the Rainbows' "Denise" as "Denis" -- but there would be others!

Song of the Day: 'I'm Gonna Love You Too' by Blondie

I remember falling in love with Blondie back in the late '70s and thinking how "I'm Gonna Love You Too" should have been a single of "Parallel Lines." It would have gone to No. 1 for sure, I insisted to myself. It wasn't until many years later that I learned that it actually had been released -- the album's lead single, in fact -- but it failed to chart in America.  Follow-up "Hanging on the Telephone" didn't do much better at home, but then the Hail Mary release of "Heart of Glass" turned out to radio gold ... and the rest is history.

Song of the Day: 'It Doesn't Matter Anymore' by Linda Ronstadt

For anyone who needs reminding why Linda Ronstadt was once the biggest female singer in the world -- 11 Grammy awards, six Rolling Stone covers -- this gem my brother sent me yesterday ought to do the trick. That her voice was somehow even more beautiful than her face made her equally popular with folk, rock and country audiences. "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" was from Ronstadt's 1974 LP, "Heart Like a Wheel," which is undoubtedly her masterpiece, in addition to being the first of her three chart-topping albums. But even more remarkable about this clip is that she was of the era when live versions were often BETTER than the album takes, something you'd be hard-pressed to encounter with any of today's top stars.
