That is an interesting NYT article. I am sure many will be up in arms about it, but there are many truths there as well. You can't even have a discussion about trans issues or you will be targeted. And that behavior should not be allowed from anyone, no matter your stance. When a Canadian researcher was kicked out of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, I knew we had a big problem. That specific researcher had some issues, no question, but to say it is irresponsible to research trans people who regret their transition? that blew my mind. And to claim it is harassment to be presented with an opinion you do not agree with? Ridiculous. The younger generation of LGBT individuals have not lived in a world that those in their 40's and beyond experienced. It is a luxury to complain about pronouns when not long ago we could be tied to a fence, beaten, and murdered and the perpatrators can use "gay panic" as validation. Trans people should be protected, no question. But the reality is, in pursuit of preferred pronouns, they have set back the fight for equal rights by years. I will never feel good using the term "queer" and find it insulting that those who embrace the term continually ignore the hate associated with the word (for many of us). And say I should embrace it. I guess we just have to be OK with that as well? or what, we are bigots and anti trans? It is feeling more and more like respect me, and I will respect you if it fits my opinion. And that needs to change.
Brian Sims can pose naked any time but I wish he would get back into politics or some real gay leadership role.
