Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys are your 2025 Aussie Open winners. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.
Jannik Sinner never faced a single break point against Alexander Zverev in winning the Australian Open on Sunday. The 23-year-old Italian produced a dominant display to defend his crown in Melbourne, 6-3 7-6 6-3. claiming a 21st consecutive win at the hard-court Grand Slams after winning both the Australian Open and U.S. Open last season.
Zverev's style (think Martina Hingis with a serve but without the smarts) is looking more and more outdated -- apparently he only knows how to be aggressive with women -- so I'm feeling increasingly confident that he will never win a major, something the ATP surely doesn't need.
I wouldn't exactly say you heard it here first, because EVERY year I believed deep down that Madison Keys could someday fulfill her obvious potential. So what a thrill to see the adorable American take out the No. 2 and No. 1 players in the world to win her first major -- both in three-set thrillers!
After defeating Aryna Sabalenka, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5
After defeating Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8)
I mean, this draw was not easy -- way to go, Madi!!!!
Cute to see that Novak Djokovic is a true fan of the sport
I don't know what kind of witch doctor Margaret Court is in cahoots with, but her (albeit bullshit) Grand Slam singles record seems safely tied with Nole at 24
Hunky Brit Henry Patten and Finland's Harri Heliovaara won the men's doubles title. Patten, 28, and Heliovaara, 35, teamed up just nine months ago but the Wimbledon champions celebrated their second Grand Slam triumph in the space of six months on Saturday.
After missing 10 set points in an epic 34-point first-set tie-break against Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, Patten and Heliovaara fought back to win 6-7 (16-18) 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 after more than three hours on court.
In women's doubles, Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend took out Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko, 6–2, 6–7(4), 6–3
And in the first all-Aussie mixed doubles final in 58 years, Olivia Gadecki and John Peers beat Kimberly Birrell and John-Patrick Smith, 3–6, 6–4, [10–6].
It's also the first major final where I'm pretty sure I don't recognize any of the four participants ... except maybe John Peers?!
