Weekend Tennis Roundup

Titles for Keys, Cerundolo, Siniakova and Eubanks. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Francisco Cerundolo captured his second tour-level title on Saturday when he defeated Tommy Paul 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 at the Rothesay International in Eastbourne. It’s not every year you see an Argentine win a tournament on grass.

The disappointed American captured Best ‘Stache honors

After saving five match points against Lloyd Harris in a dramatic semifinal victory at the Mallorca Championships on Friday, Christopher Eubanks made quick work of Adrian Mannarino in final, 6-1, 6-4, for his first ATP crown. Behind his title triumph, Eubanks is set to debut inside the Top 50 of the ATP Rankings himself at No. 43 entering Wimbledon.

Madison Keys won the Rothesay International in Eastbourne for the second time in her career Saturday with a 6-2, 7-6(13) victory over Daria Kasatkina in the final. Despite the impressive week and the fact that her game is perfectly suited for grass, I still have no reason to believe she won't lose in the first round at Wimbledon, thus the life of a Madison fan.

Katerina Siniakova captured her fourth career title and first of the season after defeating Lucia Bronzetti 6-2, 7-6(5) in the final of the Bad Homburg Open. The victory capped off a stellar week for the reigning doubles No.1, who was playing just her third tournament since recovering from a wrist injury that ruled her out of most of the clay season. As with Keys, I have no reason to think this will propel her to a successful fortnight at the Championships.

Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic completed a hat-trick of titles at the Rothesay International on Friday by stopping the 13-match winning streak of Roland Garros champions Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek. The Croatians claimed their third ATP Tour title of 2023 with a 6-4, 6-2 final victory in Eastbourne. The champions saved all three break points they faced in the trophy match and converted on three of their four chances on return.

Yuki Bhambri and Lloyd Harris continued the perfect start to their partnership by winning the Mallorca Championships doubles title on Saturday. Now 4-0 as a pair, the Indian-South African duo defeated Robin Haase and Philipp Oswald 6-3, 6-4 in the ATP 250 final, completing their run without losing a set. More important: Has anyone noticed how handsome Harris is now that he cut his Bozo hair?
