Lights Out for Giovanni's Room


Very sad to read that Giovanni's Room, aka the oldest gay bookstore in America, will be closing May 17. Philadelphia Gay News reports that owner Ed Hermance announced his plans for retirement in the fall -- planning to sell both the business and the two buildings it encompasses -- but that a potential sale agreement he announced recently fell through when the buyer could not come up with enough money to finalize the deal. A sad but seemingly inevitable day: If you recall, this was a plotline on "Will & Grace"  10 years ago.
