Song of the Day: 'The French Song' by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Not too many music careers have been as filled with contradictions as Joan Jett's. On the one hand, she's the ultimate tough-girl rocker chick, yet she's stunningly feminine and beautiful in photos and videos. She had the biggest single of 1982, yet has always managed to maintain an "underground" cult status. And while she's best known for her cover songs, she's actually a damn good songwriter, something that has been sorely overlooked. In particular, "The French Song" -- from the "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" follow-up, called "Album" -- which just may be my favorite song with the Blackhearts ever.

Great Choice! One of my best days was when they finally released her collection on CD's and I was finally able to listen to her again after wearing out my tapes after they had gone out of print.

I have never had the right timing to see her in concert - one of my only misses.
