Vote for Pedro Beto
While I'm getting tired of these Tuesday night moral victories -- only losing by 3 points in a district Trump won by 30 still doesn't give us any power whatsoever -- perhaps a star could at least be born from the race between Beto O'Rouke and Ted Cruz. (God knows we could use a fresh face.) And if O'Rourke actually pulls this upset off, so much the better!

Do Altered Images fans know that former member Johnny McElhone has hit the U.K. singles chart with Altered Images, Hipsway and Texas? (His parents were Scottish Labour Party MPs!)

Beyoncé, LGBT Icon and Houston Native, Remains Silent as Texas Pursues Anti-Transgender Bathroom Bill
Laverne Cox meets her queen at the Grammys
Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Sting, Cyndi Lauper, Miley Cyrus, Whoopi Goldberg Amy Schumer and Laverne Cox are among the bold-faced names who have signed onto a letter urging Texas legislators to abandon their anti-transgender bathroom bill. Yet as was the case during Houston's much-needed Proposition 1 -- the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO), which guaranteed equality based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing and services, something neither U.S. nor Texas state law protect -- Houston native and LGBT icon Beyoncé has said nothing. We could really use the help of someone of her stature -- and a native Texas-- to fight this fearmongering. What's up with that?

Supreme Court Rejects Abortion Limits in Texas
Finally, some good news after what seems like weeks of insanity.
The New York Times reports:
The Supreme Court on Monday struck down parts of a restrictive Texas law that could have reduced the number of abortion clinics in the state to about 10 from what was once a high of roughly 40. The 5-to-3 decision was the court’s most sweeping statement on abortion rights since Planned Parenthood v. Casey in 1992. It applied a skeptical and exacting version of that decision’s “undue burden” standard to find that the restrictions in Texas went too far. The decision on Monday means that similar restrictions in other states are most likely also unconstitutional, and it imperils many other kinds of restrictions on abortion.

11 (Embarrassing) States Sue Obama Administration Over Transgender Guidance
Bashing and demonizing transgenders really is the new anti-gay agenda. The American Civil Liberties Union has this legal ploy figured out precisely, calling it a "political stunt."
James Esseks, director of the ACLU Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and HIV Project had the following reaction:
“This lawsuit is an attack from eleven states on transgender Americans, plain and simple. While the Obama administration is being sued, the real targets here are vulnerable young people and adults who simply seek to live their lives free from discrimination when they go to school, work or the restroom.”
“There have been no disruptions, increases in public safety incidents, nor invasions of privacy related to protections for transgender people. The federal agencies named in this lawsuit have not changed existing obligations under the law. Our civil rights laws, including Title VII and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act, have long prohibited discrimination on the basis of sex, and federal courts and agencies have long recognized that this includes protections for transgender people.”
“The Supreme Court has made clear that one cannot sue an agency just because they disagree with the agency’s guidance. If these attorneys general disagree with the agency’s interpretation of what the federal ban on sex discrimination means, they can make that argument to the court when it arises in a real case. This lawsuit is a political stunt.”

Tina Was Wrong
I try not to pay attention to news from Texas -- sorry, Austin! -- as most of them don't want to be a state and I don't really count it as one. But what's happening in Houston, the first major city to have an openly gay mayor, is disgusting. Happy to see Hillary Clinton speaking out in favor of not repealing the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, which from what little I've heard has turned into the Briggs Imitative of the 21st century. Oh, Texas.

U.S. Judge Strikes Down Texas' Same-Sex Marriage Ban
To Gov. Rick Perry, with love and sodomy:
"Without a rational relation to a legitimate governmental purpose, state-imposed inequality can find no refuge in our U.S. Constitution.”-- Federal District Court Judge Orlando Garcia, February 26, 2014
"A federal judge in San Antonio ruled Wednesday that Texas’ ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutionally deprives some citizens of due process and equal protection under the law by stigmatizing their relationships and treating them differently from opposite-sex couples. U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia cited recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings as having trumped Texas’ moves to ban gay marriage." -- Dallas Morning NewsFull story HERE.
