But Her Emails

Remember when the Gray Lady endorsed Donald Trump for president?

P.S.

The State Department finally admitted there was no wrongdoing, but you can be sure the Times buried it on Page 16.

They’re (Still) Heeeeeere!

Just as Russia sowed discord among Democrats during the 2016 presidential campaign, Politico reports that a wide-ranging disinformation campaign aimed at Democratic 2020 candidates is already underway on social media, with signs that foreign state actors are driving at least some of the activity.

It’s never really been clear to me if all Democrats understood that Russia didn’t really try to turn liberal voters conservative -- or the other way around --, but rather turned liberals sour on the Democratic candidates, which chipped away at voter turnout just enough in three hitherto reliably blue states called Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. (The first person say say Debbie Wasserman Schultz wins the argument!)

Despite all the indictments of bad actors doing these things, there doesn’t seem to be a lot that can be done to stop it.

All we can do is be vigilant about not falling for it again - - and remind your friends to focus on what they like about the 2020 candidates rather than dwell on the negatives of the ones they don’t.

Red Menace

This keeps Damian and me up at night to this day. How could SOME OF OUR OWN have been so gullible?

Trump Loses Pecker

My brother Bill lived to see the sad rise of Trump -- and shortly before he died marveled at Crazy Donald's unique ability to project things on others that we didn't even know he was guilty of yet. Wish he were here to see this.

Dissed Opportunity

I'll go to my grave always wondering what it might have been like to have this brilliant and thoughtful woman lead our country. I must say I find it curious -- or should I say galling -- that my left-leaning friends who spent 18 months running Hillary Clinton into the ground, calling her "Nixonian" and the "queen of triangulation,” ensuring that Democratic (and reasonable-people) voter turnout was just low enough to cause this mess are the ones who cry the loudest about the fix we're in. Bothsidesism is a scourge, but it's actually apt where lack of self-awareness is concerned.

Hear No Evil

Would you believe that with the help of a loving and supportive boyfriend and a quick mute-button finger, I have not had to listen to this man's voice once in the past 18 months? The closest I came was when I was in Arizona visiting my parents last year and they wanted to watch the news. I knew this was a recipe for disaster with Mr. and Mrs. Both Sides, so I suggested we not. But my stepfather put it on anyway -- and Trump immediately came on the screen. I panicked -- and jumped up putting my fingers in my ears and started loudly chanting "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA" as I headed to the guest room. (I knew I looked ridiculous, but I do not want to deal with THAT.) Unbeknownst to me, someone had left a fan on in the room where I was sleeping so when I went to close the door, it got away from me and SLAMMED shut. I wasn't angry at all -- I just don't want to hear that weaselly voice -- but my mom took the whole scene (and slam) to mean I was truly upset. There was suddenly a quiet tap on the door, and then she came in to "console" me and to make sure I was OK. It was totally unwarranted -- I tried to explain to her about the fan -- but she was in full-on Mom mode and I thought it was too adorable to stop her. It also seemed fitting given that on Nov. 8 when reality began to set in, Damian broke down in tears lying on the bed in our apartment in Chelsea while I sat staring into space almost numb thinking, "I want my mommy."

At least it's a good time to be an art director ...
