Report from Toronto and Montreal ...
Jannik Sinner broke new ground on Sunday when he captured his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Toronto. The Italian produced a clean-hitting display to earn a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Alex de Minaur in one hour and 30 minutes.
World No.3 Jessica Pegula captured her third career title and second WTA 1000 trophy after defeating No.18 Liudmila Samsonova 6-1, 6-0 in the final in Montreal. Samsonova came into the match having spent nearly 10 hours on court. Earlier in the day, the 24-year-old came from a set down to defeat No.4 Elena Rybakina 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in their rain-postponed semifinal that left her at an extreme disadvantage.
In men's doubles, Marcelo Arevalo and Jean-Julien Rojer delivered a high-class championship-match display to prevail 6-3, 6-1 against Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury and claim their maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown.
