At 70, KIT212 fave Carly Simon might have picked "Anticipation" as a better title for her memoir. But "Boys in the Trees" -- which is not being published by her father's Simon & Schuster -- promises to be worth the wait:
"This book is my way of going back through my childhood, my music, my romances, my marriage ... and trying to make sense of it all," Simon says in a statement. "I've been working on it for so long that it feels like my third child ... but now it's time to send that child out in the world. It's one of the most frightening – and exciting – things I've ever done."I'm almost certain Carly was about to release a memoir years ago but then panicked and scrapped the whole thing when her family reacted negatively to her revelation that her parents' marriage was one of convenience.
The L.A. Times adds: The book will encompass Simon's childhood, her early years singing folk songs with her sister in Greenwich Village, her romances, marriage to James Taylor (and its public dissolution), family secrets, what inspired her confessional songwriting, and her successful solo career that has included 13 top-40 hits, led by "You're So Vain." "Boys in the Trees" will be published Nov. 24, just in time for holiday shopping.
Curious how deep she will go into her close friendship with Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. I remember stories about the two secretly meeting in movie theaters and having a blast!

There's one story I always think of at any mention of Carly Simon. The late Lynn Samuels, liberal talk radio host for years in NYC, would often speak about her side gigs waiting tables at various clubs in the Village in the '60s and '70s. One time, Samuel recalled, Carly Simon came in with a group of about 30 people. They had drinks and food. Samuel waited on them and when they left, the tip they left behind was $0.00.
"And that", Samuels said, "is all you need to know about Carly Simon."
