Adventures in Catsitting
Stopped by my friend Greg's apartment in Hell's Kitchen today on the way to work to check in on his baby, Josie, while he is on vacation.
To say she's a character is an understatement: This is how she greeted us when we arrived.
Damian immediately put her at ease ...
explaining that we had visited the Norwegian Forest cat's ancestral homeland just a few months ago.

Dad called while we were there, but she's not speaking to him right now. I'm sure all will be forgiven when he arrives home soon!

When a Man Loves a Cat
Damian and I caught a screening of "Cat Daddies" last night and my face still hurts from smiling (through tears of joy). The less you know going into it the better, in my opinion. But suffice to say it's a must-see for cat lovers, and should probably be mandatory viewing for all men as a lesson against toxic masculinity.
After missing it at the Angelika, we had planned to see "Cat Daddies" a few weeks ago in Hudson, N.Y., only to have our Metro North train break down. (It seems to be showing in select cities right now before eventually coming to home release.) So a NJ Transit train to Asbury Park -- in 8-degree weather on a Friday evening -- was a small price to pay to finally see writer/director Mye Hoang's gem of a documentary.
Check for a screening near you HERE.
P.S.
We had a couple hours to kill before the next train back to NYC, so had dinner at a cute Mexican joint on Main Street (where a waitress with a beautiful voice sang live) before having a beer at Georgie's. The bar was cute and even played "Walking on Sunshine" and the C L McSpadden Powerhouse Mix of "Missing"!

Song of the Day: 'Living in a Box' by Living in a Box
One of the more self-consciously new wave bands that came on the scene just as it was ending, Living in a Box's eponymous hit single was the cat anthem we never knew existed ... until my friend Greg Endries used it in an Instagram story starring his little girl, Josie!

The Gray Lady
Our friend Greg noticed this sweet girl on the KittyKind website. We'd love to add her to our family -- she really looks like she could be Harvey's little sister -- but sadly we adopted him with the promise that he'd be an only cat. If you're interested in making Sadie yours -- maybe we could at least arrange play dates -- please click HERE.

All's Forgiven
Misophonia kept me from going to the theater to catch a rare film I actually wanted to see. But Damian and I found a home-screening of "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" -- based on the memoir of famed celebrity forger Lee Israel -- to be well worth the wait. Melissa McCarthy, who normally makes movies I would never see even in the quiet of my own home, was spectacular as the aggressively unpleasant failed writer who turns to fraud to avoid homelessness, Richard E. Grant was equally good as her eventual partner in crime, while Dolly Wells -- of HBO's ill-fated "Doll and Em" -- and Jane Curtin deliver nice supporting performances. Though a film about a female writer set in the early 1990s New York City literary world was an encouraging sign that I would enjoy it, that "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" was largely set in my local watering hole (Julius') and has a Larry-lookalike cat co-star quickly bumped into instant classic status. I highly recommend!

Boy Meets Cat
I don't understand how this guy who travels all the time for work has time for a dog but not a cat. But anytime a kitty finds a good home, I guess you have to call it a happy ending.
