Mrs. Neil Patrick Harris to Guest Star on Web Series 'West 40s'

Some casting news for you.

David Burtka -- who is best known for being married to gay-icon-after-being-pushed-out-of-the-closet Neil Patrick Harris -- is slated to join the cast of "West 40s," Mark Sam Rosenthal and Brian Sloan’s web series about five gay men stumbling through their 40s in Hell’s Kitchen NYC

From a release:
David Burtka will play a major guest-starring role in Episode 3, slated for production in January 2019. Burtka has been acting in film, TV and theater since moving to New York City in the 1990s. He has appeared on "The West Wing," "American Horror Story" and as a celebrity judge on "RuPaul’s Drag Race." He is also a professional chef, having studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena with appearances on Food Network’s "Beat Bobby Flay" and as a judge on "Worst Cooks in America." He has a book coming out in 2019, "Life is a Party." His role on "West 40s" will be his first major scripted role in a few years, after focusing mainly on his culinary career.
“I love this series and I’m honored to be a part of it. I have always been a fan of Brian Sloan’s work and I am so happy I finally get to work him,” said Burtka, 43. Burtka and his husband, who have been together nearly 15 years, are New Yorkers too, having moved permanently to the city in 2015 when Harris’s run on "How I Met Your Mother" ended.
Should be fun to see. Is Episode 2 ever coming out?

Gay Sex and the City

I'm notoriously turned off by web series. (I also don't get podcasts.) But no sooner did I cave into "EastSiders" Netflix went and picked it up. Here's hoping the same happens to Brian Sloan and Mark Sam Rosenthal's "West 40s," whose pilot (below) looks like the start of something special.

The 'Boy' Who Cried Woof

Excited to hear that "Boy Culture" -- the best-selling novel by Matthew Rettenmund that was turned into an acclaimed film 10 years ago -- is coming back as what is being billed as a "daring new digital series," tackling a variety of hot-button issues facing the modern gay. Taking over the role of hustler X from Derek Magyar will be Matthew Wilkas, who charmed audiences in "Gayby" before charming the pants off of Gus Kenworthy. Ageless Darryl Stephens (of "Noah's Arc" fame) returns as Andrew -- plus a bunch of new faces including Internet favorite Matt Crawford and singer Steve Grand.

I was first introduced to Matt via Q. Allan Brocka's film adaptation -- Matt and I ended up having lunch at Blue Fin after I accidentally stood him up the day before at Le Grainne Cafe in Chelsea -- and I've been a fan (and friend) ever since. (I immediately bought the book, which is great and is the shortest thing he's ever written!) I'm eager to see where these sexy characters find themselves a decade later -- the original had a MySpace page! -- as the landscape for all denizens of the LGBTQ community has changed so dramatically. 'They Won't Be Happy Until This Whole Island Is One Big Duane Reade With a Starbucks Inside'

Jeremiah's Vanishing New York reports that “The Holdouts” is a comedy series about New Yorkers who can’t afford to live in the new New York. Co-created by Stephen Girasuolo and Dan Menke, it stars Kevin Corrigan as Kevin Shanahan, a rent-controlled tenant who refuses his landlord's buyout as he bemoans the hyper-gentrification of the city: “They won’t be happy until this whole island is one big Duane Reade with a Starbucks inside and an IHOP inside that and a Bank of America inside that.” Learn more about this poignant and timely creation HERE ...

Will you be tuning in to "John & Kit"? I see they have a kitty in the opening scene, so I'm already sold!

From a release:
Widely recognized from the successful, LGBT-themed Web series, "EastSiders," Kit Williamson and John Halbach may not be lovers on screen, but they recently got married off it! And now the NYC-based couple have created a YouTube channel to give fans of their show a behind the scenes peek at their lives as married gay men and work as actors and indie filmmakers. WATCH: The Season 4 Premiere of 'Where the Bears Are'

I've never watched this, because the way I see it, the entire gay community is "where the bears are" anymore, so it seemed redundant. Tell me if I'm missing something.

I've still yet to watch a Web series -- I haven't even gotten around to "The Wire," "The Sopranos" or "Breaking Bad" -- but I hear this one's good if you're caught up and looking for something new.

Shit Happens on the 'Hustling' Series Finale

In case you missed it, here's the final episode of my friend Andrew's web series. Enjoy!
The award-winning series comes to an end. Ryan (Sebastian La Cause) tries to pick up the pieces after he winds up back in his old apartment. A cheap client (Jai Rodriguez) gets on his nerves. Julien (Facundo Rodriguez) provides some comfort; Ryan confronts Jay (Andrew Glaszek). Ryan and Rosa (Daphne Rubin-Vega) make a big decision.

Feeling Campy?

Sixth-grade camp left an indelible mark on me, so I can only imagine what it was like for the staff! The in-need-of-your-support web series "Camp Abercorn" is explained like this:
Every summer hundreds of thousands of Scouts head off to summer camp at hundreds of places just like "Camp Abercorn."  Each faces their own individual challenges, and writes their own stories. "Camp Abercorn" is a dramatic web series about the blunders and the victories—an authentic portrayal of life on camp staff. (Gays in Scouts will be addressed.) For 10 weeks each summer, Camp Abercorn becomes a bustling wonderland of activity for boys, guided by their fearless leaders—the camp staff.

The 'People' in Your Neighborhood

Lots of buzz for the new web series "People You Know." For whatever reason, watching stuff on my computer just doesn't appeal to me. But Steve "Tired Old Queen at the Movies" Hayes sure does, so I gave the trailer a chance -- and so shoudl you! Keep up with the latest up dates HERE.

'Day Drunk Gays': Don't Be an App-Hole

Because I'm more of a one-on-one friend -- damn social anxiety disorder! -- this big gay brunch phenomenon is sort of lost on me. But this web series really seems to be more popular than a soon-to-be-outlawed bottomless mimosa.
