Tiafoe, Verdasco and Thiem Work Up a Sweat in Cincy

Looks like practice didn't make perfect for Tiafoe and Verdasco, who were both knocked out in the first round.

Hearts Aflutter as Adidas Raises Hemline on Men's Tennis Shorts

Gilles Simon

Sometimes it's the little things -- and Adidas really delivered with its latest "kit" being sported by many of its stars. The collarless blouse clings nicely to the guys' bodies -- but it's the blue shorts that have been raised just a tad that have me very excited about the summer tennis season ahead. Sure, they're not exactly in Boris Becker territory. But it's a step in the right direction!

Oh, Fernando (Verdasco)

Stefanos Tsitsipas may have lost this match to Richard Gasquet. But he won the sartorial sectionals ...

Tennis and Soccer Players Bring Hope to Japan

With the men's tour down in Miami this week, all the top players rallied together last night for charity soccer match to raise money for victims of the recent tsunami. The Hope Match for Japan pitted the ATP World Tour Allstars versus the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Ransom Everglades in Miami. Proceeds from the post-match fundraiser dinner went to the American Red Cross Japan disaster relief effort -- and the competition looked awfully fun (and fierce), too!

Fernando Verdasco: From Tiny White Briefs to Tiny White Flakes

Tennis star Fernando Verdasco -- who currently can be seen in his tighty whities in better department stores around the world -- has been named the new spokesman for Head and Shoulders shampoo. Watch the Spanish hunk -- who was a shoo-in for the job with his lustrous brown locks -- in action below, with a making-of video followed by the finished product. I haven't seen someone THIS into his own follicles since Frieda and her naturally curly hair. Leave it to Fernando to make having dandruff seem sexy ...

Opening Day

No major upsets at Wimbledon yesterday (Feliciano Lopez or James Blake losing was hardly unexpected). My only guy who wasn't able to finish up was Tommy Haas, who was leading 2 sets to 1 when the match was called for darkness. Here's what I'm keeping an eye on:

A newly coiffed Fernando Verdasco (7) def. James Ward 6-1, 6-3, 6-4
A shaky Novak Djokovic (4) def. Julien Benneteau 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-1), 6-2, 6-4
A confident Roger Federer (2) def. Yen-Hsun Lu 7-5, 6-3, 6-2
Rafael Nadal's boy toy Feliciano Lopez (21) lost to Karol Beck 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8
Cutie Tommy Haas (24) leads Alexander Peya 6-7 (5-7), 7-6, 6-3, 4-4 suspended
Meanwhile, Andy Roddick geared up on Monday for his first-round match today
