Meme Spirited

For those who have been kind enough to reach out, Harvey has been stable but not 100 percent since we got back from Egypt. As is often the case, the doctors can tell us what's NOT wrong with him -- cancer, of course, being our biggest concern. But they're not as good at telling us what is causing him to puke more than he should. After subjecting him to a course of high-octane antibiotics to treat what one vet believed was an inordinate amount of Helicobacter pylori in Harvey’s blood, we are now experimenting with some hydrolyzed foods in case it's a food sensitivity. Of course, he immediately rejected the wet kind we got -- pet owners know how Chewy only sells things in bulk so you can imagine how thrilled we are -- and he's not too big on the dry, either. (We envy the owners of Morris the cat.) So now we're experimenting with giving him some black market prednisone to see if inflammatory bowel disease -- which wasn't diagnosed by Vet No. 1 and suspected but not diagnosed by Vet No. 2 -- might be to blame. In short: He's adorable and worth every bit of time and effort! xo

UPDATE: He already figured out the steroid was in the pill pocket, so it looks like we're back to square one.

Poor Harvey! I hope they figure out what's wrong with him

Kenneth, we have the same issue with our cat. I have tried so many brands and types of food (including raw food from Darwin’s and Cat Person). She hates everything! The vet did an ultrasound on her and found a lot of liquid in her intestines. They prescribed an antibiotic- it takes two of us to give them to her. Also giving her B12 injections once a week. Needless to say, she now has trust issues with us… I just ordered some Made by Nacho food (Bobby Flay’s cat food). She hates it. I bake chicken breasts for her, give her canned tuna- it’s hit or miss. I hope you have better luck with Harvey…

Try giving Harvey Purina Cat Chow Gentle for Sensitive Stomach and Skin (dry food in a purple bag). My two cats were barfing like crazy. The vet suggested all kinds of medicine. Nothing worked, but once I switched to this food they were both fine. And they love it.

Good luck! -- Ed
