Family Matters

My parents were 286 miles into their cross-country road trip to visit their East Coast family and my brother Bill's final resting place, pulling a brand-new travel trailer, when they got into an accident that sent their Ford Expedition and "home away from home on wheels" flipping repeatedly before landing in a ditch on the side of the highway in Deming, N.M. They are both miraculously alive. But my mom, who already has osteoporosis and a reconstructed spine with a rod in her back, got the worse of it, and is awaiting X-rays for a possible broken collarbone and ribs. My heart is broken for them -- this trip was a lifelong retirement dream of theirs that was already tainted by my brother's death -- but more than anything I am just thankful they are relatively OK.

UPDATE: Mom has one hairline-fractured rib but no surgery required. They’re very shaken and sore, but seem to be coping as well as can be expected. My wonderful brother-in-law (Anthony) is going to get them tomorrow. ❤️

Another update HERE.

I am glad they are safe. I did not check in yesterday.

I'm glad they are relatively okay. How old are they? And what does "got into an accident" mean?

Looks like Bill and a league of guardian angels took care of your mom and dad. Trucks and "home away from home" can be replaced. Bones and fascia are a bit more demanding. Hope the mental trauma fades quickly. Scary for you too. Speedy recovery for all. Best, Alex
