'Roseanne' to Return This Fall on ABC

If you never got into "Roseanne" then you really missed out. (That's Roseanne the series, not the person!) Season One, before Roseanne Barr got control of the show, is adorable if slightly formulaic. And Seasons 6, 7, 8 are noticeably inferior. (And everyone knows about "The Lottery" year.) But that period of Seasons 2 through 5 -- when (real) Becky was becoming a rebellious teenager in love (with Mark), Dan lost the bike shop and Darlene was the Queen of Ennui -- was probably the most realistic (and frequently heartrending) depiction of an American family in the history of television. Here's hoping the revamped version does the show justice.

Dan died. How are they going to explain that one?

I'm sure they'll erase that final season from memory, as we all have!

Roseanne has become a right wing dumpster fire in social media. I loved the show and have fond memories from watching it growing up, but I won't be following this rehash.

She's always been nuts. I understand that some can't look past that.

True, she was always wacky; it was part of her charm. She's revealed herself to be an anti-muslim bigot (among other things) in recent years, though. Maybe she always was, but before social media it wasn't known, or could be ignored. Now I can't see her without being reminded of her trash politics and opinions.

I thought seasons 1 through 5 were really good, but the rest kind of poisoned the show for me. The show got cheesy, and then of course, fake Becky (I'm fine with Sarah Chalke, just not her as Becky). I don't understand why people like any of the other seasons, but here's hoping the new season is of the better variety. I liked it best when Roseanne was a blue collar worker with her friends, family and sister around being PWT. It was relatable. (Frankly, the Tom Arnold years were among the best--who knew?)

I am sure I will watch just to see how they work around Dan's death. Was a huge fan of the show S1-S7, but refuse to rewatch the last couple. lol

Loved, loved "Roseanne", especially the Halloween episodes (always epic). I watched the last season originally but have basically erased it from my memory (mercifully). The re-runs show up on Saturdays on Comedy Central and I actually think they skip the final season. At its best, it was a sharp, relatable, and very, very funny show about a typical family. Much more realistic and memorable than the candy-coated (and often tediously slow) "Cosby Show", to name just one competing sitcom. One real plus about "Roseanne" was the incredible array of great performers in bit and supporting parts. They really made the show richer and more enjoyable.
