Ding-Dong: Avon Calling! (UPDATE: Model Patrick St. Clair)

If typical adolescent boys are notorious for "discovering" the juniors section of the Sears catalog, then I guess it only stands to reason that my youth was also filled with order-by-number masturbation material. The memory that burns strongest was a photo of a hunky "Magnum P.I." type of guy hawking Rugger aftershave in an Avon catalog my mom had lying around the house. With only the slightest of effort I recalled that it had to have been from 1981 -- the summer I turned 14 and hormones were in full gear -- and within seconds I'd found a "lot of 26" Avon catalogs from that year for sale on eBay, which I promptly snatched up. They arrived in the mail yesterday and sure enough, the hunk in question was featured throughout the year -- including this bathroom-favorite photo of my man in a khaki button-down shirt (notice the hint of chest hair). Now take that, Marilu Henner! Anyone know who this model is? Would love to track him down 30 years later and tell him what he, um, meant to me!

Four more shots of Mr. 1981 HERE.

UPDATE: At the suggestion of my friend Mark Allen, I contacted Avon directly and their sweet PR woman was able to do some digging to find out this guy's name is Patrick St. Clair. She claims he's wearing a fake mustache -- say it isn't so, Patrick! -- but so far his (fairly) common name has led me nowhere. If anyone ones where he is -- or if Patrick Saint Clair is Googling himself right now -- please get in touch with me!

Kenneth, this is an awesome post. I worry that the actual porn on the internet will rob today's gay boys of an important part of growing up. There's a special thrill in jerking off to non-explicit material.

The year was 1992. There was a Sears catalogue with a model (pretty goofy looking, now that I look back) working out on a multi-exercise machine. Hairy chest, awful haircut, and the least sexual pose every photographed near workout equipment. I was fourteen, and I jerked off to it so often that in the end I accidently sealed the pages shut.

I still remember the sense of loss.

Amazing! I love that you tracked this down. Excellent memory, Kenneth. That'd be awesome to discover who this model is/was.

Could it be Michael Kearns? See http://www.pbase.com/johnglines/image/107422620. Wasn't he modeling as well as acting in Los Angeles in the early '80s?

I hope you get to post more of those models from then.

Possibly young Patrick Bergin, the SOB from Sleeping With The Enemy.

It was the long underwear pages in my dad's hunting equipment catalogs for me! I still have a soft spot for a man in a union suit...

OK, you have made me go looking for a mystery man of the past. Mine was little more daring as he was in Hustler. But he looked just like Michael Lembeck. I did a post on my need to find this man, maybe you can help spread the word.

Kenneth: I knew him. His name is Patrick St. Clair. He was a Ford model when I knew him (early 1980s). I dated an ex of his (another model). We hung out together and I have photos of him with me (always without a moustache.:). I sometimes run into an ex- of his at my gym and might be able to find out where he is these days.

I'd like to know if Patrick is around & doing well. I dated him briefly in 2000 while we were both living in LA. Our paths were going in very different directions and I remember him as a very kind & gentle soul. I too grew up veiwing him on magazine covers & was very surprised to see that it was actually him when we went on our first date.

No offense to anyone but I'm crushed that he's gay...🥺
