'Parting Glances' Reunion

UPDATE to my earlier post: It turns out that John Bolger and Richard Ganoung were at Outfest this year (how wonderful to see them here with Kathy Kinney and Steve Buscemi). Maybe the fact that Buscemi still would go to something like this tells you something about how special "Parting Glances" was, or maybe he's just a cool guy. Either way, this photo is a sight for sore eyes. What's even more fun is Richard Wall, the guy who played the fabulous Douglas -- "Well, I told Joan I'd buy one of her paintings on one condition: somewhere in it she has to have Edith Piaf" -- just e-mailed me. 'Hairspray" Premieres in Baltimore in 1988

Here's a great clip I saw on Matt's blog about the making and promotion of John Waters' "Hairspray" back in 1988. Interviews with Divine (out of character), Divine's mom, Waters plus Rachel Sweet lip-synching her fab title track with Ricki Lake dancing in the background. The only thing missing is a little bit of Debbie Harry.

David Wright Delivers

Mets third baseman David Wright created quite a sensation over at the FDNY's Ladder 20 Engine 13 firehouse on Lafayette Street while filming a new VitaminWater commercial yesterday. Wright traded in his baseball uniform for some VitaminWater delivery man blues -- complete with "David" name patch. Is it any wonder all the firefighters were giddy and snapping cell-phone pictures of New York City's most eligible bachelor? (Gothamist)

Manhunt, Eh? Police on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border are hunting for a 22-year old Windsor, Ontario, man wanted in the killing of a bartender at an area bar. The badly decomposed body of Carlos Rivera, 26, was found late last week in his Windsor apartment, three days after he failed to show up at Taps, a popular gay bar in the city that attracts clientele from both sides of the border. A first degree murder warrant has been issued for Jesse Norman Imeson. The 22-year old is considered armed an dangerous police said. Investigators say they believe Imeson met Rivera at the bar. The pair were seen last week in Rivera's car with Imeson at the wheel. (365Gay)

Reversal of Fortune: Six medical workers sentenced to life in prison in Libya after they were accused of infecting children with HIV came home to Bulgaria on Tuesday and were greeted with tears and hugs -- and a presidential pardon that allowed them to walk free after 8 1/2 years behind bars. The five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor were flown from Tripoli to a jubilant welcome in Sofia. (AP)

Maria McKee @ Joe's Pub

Last night Michael and I saw the insanely talented Maria McKee (and when I say insane, I mean insane!) perform live at Joe's Pub. The set was short but wonderful and very dramatic (it runs in the family, after all). I've adored Maria since the early days of Lone Justice and it always makes me happy to see her alive and well and writing new music. Although her last few solo albums have been a rather huge departure from the Maria I fell in love with back in high school, with what seems to be so many unusual thoughts and ideas constantly racing through her head at once I can't help but thinking that a big Broadway score is in her future. And can the girl still sing ...

My two favorite moments were when she did the old Lone Justice song "Wheels" off of "Shelter":
