Dylann Roof’s Judge Removed

The U.S. justice system is only as good as the people who run it. This is good to hear, but what about the lunatics we have in the U.S. Supreme Court? This is why have a Democratic president is vital.

The Daily Beast reports:
The Supreme Court of South Carolina has replaced Charleston County Chief Magistrate James B. Gosnell less than a week after The Daily Beast revealed he used "n---er" in front of a black defendant in 2003. Gosnell presided over the preliminary hearing for Dylann Roof last Friday and was criticized for saying Roof's family were also victims of the massacre inside Emanuel AME Church. South Carolina Chief Justice Toal's order did not say why Gosnell was replaced.

U.S. Appeals Court Rules DOMA Unconstitutional in Windsor Case

More great news toward full equality for gay citizens. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York ruled against the so-called Defense of Marriage Act today in the case Windsor v. United States, involving Edith “Edie” Windsor, who was required to pay more than $363,000 in federal estate taxes on her inheritance when her wife, Thea Spyer, died, taxes she would not have paid if she were in a straight marriage. This is the second time a U.S. appeals court has ruled that the 1996 law is unconstitutional. Read Ari Ezra Waldman's analysis of today's good news HERE.
