Planned Parenthood Files Suit Against Anti-Abortion Group Behind Smear-Campaign Videos

Dear Friend,

I’m writing to share news that has been several months in the making. Planned Parenthood filed a federal lawsuit today against the extremists who are behind the video smear campaign of the last few months.

The federal lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, outlines how anti-abortion extremists broke the law in order to spread malicious lies about Planned Parenthood and, ultimately, to try to block women’s access to safe and legal abortion.

Specifically, the lawsuit says the people behind the smear campaign engaged in a complex criminal enterprise through wire fraud, mail fraud, invasion of privacy, illegal secret recording, and trespassing in order to spread false claims that Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the seven Planned Parenthood affiliates in California filed the lawsuit. This lawsuit is an opportunity to hold the people behind this fraud accountable and to again make clear that the accusations about Planned Parenthood are completely untrue.

This fight is far from over. Anti-reproductive health politicians are using the smear campaign to try to harm Planned Parenthood and our patients across the country. They’re demanding investigations, pushing for outrageous restrictions on access to reproductive health care, and even threatening the safety of our staff and patients. The next few months are going to continue to be tough – but we are stronger than ever, thanks to your support.
