Michael Flynn Pleads Guilty to Lying to the F.B.I. -- UPDATE

In what is a surprise to no one paying attention, Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the F.B.I. about conversations with the Russian ambassador last December during the presidential transition, bringing the special counsel’s investigation into the president’s inner circle. The retired lieutenant general has also promised “full cooperation” in the Russia investigation and, according to a confidant, is prepared to testify that Trump directed him to make contact with the Russians, initially as a way to work together to fight ISIS in Syria. Translation: Trump will call him a liar (like everyone else who doesn't play along with his delusional reality), Republicans will look the other way and Trump will be re-elected in a landslide in 2020 as Democrats nitpick whoever our candidate is for having said something in 1992 that we don't like in retrospect. 

Until Trump vetoes something Republicans want -- which he won't -- they will remain loyal

And here comes the pullback. Trump the president-elect will merely say he was trying to get a head start with Russia on defeating ISIS -- case closed.

Comey Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

This is one way to distract from [insert latest fuck-up here] -- do something equally bad or worse every day for four years:

The New York Times reports that Donald Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo that Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting. “I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. 

The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia. 

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.

Mr. Comey did not say anything to Mr. Trump about curtailing the investigation, only replying: “I agree he is a good guy.”

And still no one will do anything because nothing sticks when everything you do is wrong.

National security adviser Flynn discussed sanctions with Russian ambassador, despite denials, officials say

This is only a felony if Democrats do it, right? (There's only one reason you would deny something like this -- you think what you did was wrong.)

Out Like Flynn -- UPDATE

I don't know what to think of the Michael Flynn situation -- it's just the latest in a long series of extremely troubling connections between the U.S. and Russia that defies any reasonable explanation -- but Moby(!) seems to think he has it all figured out. While this would normally sound like the rant of a conspiracy theorist gone mad -- you know, like Donald Trump -- it's gotten to the point that it's hard to dismiss it out of hand, especially when Flynn thinks he served the American people "in such a distinguished way" after being shit-canned by two presidents in a row. (What the hell are you talking about?)

Add to this that a friend in D.C. -- who is extremely bright and well-connected but suddenly seemed to be unraveling before my very eyes when I met him for a drink -- insists that Mike Pence is "under sealed indictment," that Washington is about to be "taken over" by Russia and divided into zones -- "but don't believe it when it happens" (huh?) -- and that there is a major terrorist attack in the works, so Clinton would have done the same thing Trump did, albeit in a legal way. We knew electing a petty and vindictive man with no government experience was a recipe for disaster. But I think even his biggest critics are a tad surprised it's taken less than a month for the whole thing to all but implode.
