Song of the Day: 'When I Was Your Man' by Derrick Anderson

This one  is filled with emotions. First, I didn't realize the Bangles had actually "replaced" the great Micki Steele on bass -- with an actual man, no less! And that the replacement, Derrick Anderson, ended up releasing a solo album that featured the Peterson sisters plus Kim Shattuck of the Muffs, who we just lost ALS at just 56.

Song of the Day: 'Kids in America' by the Muffs

Was saddened to hear about the death of Kim Shattuck, lead singer and songwriter for the Muffs, after a two-year battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). She was 56. Kim first came on my radar as a member of the Pandoras, the 1980's garage-rock group that disbanded when lead singer/songwriter Paula Pierce died of a brain aneurysm in 1991 at just 31.Although the Muffs have six albums and another due later this month, they're probably best known for this cover of Kim Wilde's "Kids in America," which was used in the film "Clueless." RIP.

I adored and admired @kimshattuck and am shattered to know she is gone. We shared an implicit bond, an unspoken understanding of being intact and persevering figures in the vast sisterhood of female rock musicians. I love all y’all out there doing it, committed and living the life you choose. I know she was supported and loved by a very close circle of loved ones and my heart breaks for their loss. I would have loved to see what else she did in her life but maybe what we get is enough when it’s as pure and potent and funny and really fucking cool and rocking as Kim Shattuck. We are blessed to have this last record coming out. Thank you to everyone who made sure that happened and thank you Kim for sharing your force with us all.
