Oscar the Grouch

I don't watch the Oscars, but I still root for actors and films. But now that Annette Bening has officially slipped into Glenn "I will never get an Oscar" Close territory by being snubbed for her performance in "20th Century Women," my days of even paying attention are over. P.S. What a pity they didn't film an Elizabeth Warren film while Annette was in her "20th" hair and makeup -- the resemblance was uncanny! Read the abominable list of nominees HERE.

'Women' and Children First

I'd go the movies way more often if every film could be as thoughtful and smart as "20th Century Women." If it were up to me, Annette Bening would finally receiver an Oscar, and Lucas Jade Zumann and Elle Fanning would at least be nominated for their nuanced performances.

Stephen Ira Beatty: 'If You Can't Handle Having a Trans Kid, Don't Have Kids'

UPDATE: Warren Beatty speaks about his transgender son for the first time, calls him his "hero." Read HERE.

This is a few years old, but the trans movement has made such huge strides recently I thought it was worth revisiting. Warren Beatty and Annette Benig's trans son, Stephen, recorded a video for #WeHappyTrans when he was 20 years old. (He identifies as a "trans man, a faggy queen, a homosexual, a queer, a nerd fighter and an artist," idolizes Truman Capote and talks really fast!) These days, Stephen says on his Twitter profile that he's a writer and co-editor of Vetch: A Magazine of Trans Poetry & Poetics. He also spoke out when Leelah Alcorn took her life in 2015.
