Oscar! Oscar! I don't think I've ever been more excited about a film than I am about the long-awaited Harvey Milk biopic, "Milk." As I mentioned yesterday, the trailer (on the big screen) brought me to tears, and Sean Penn's transformation into the slain city supervisor is "so beautifully right," according to a Milk friend who is played in the film by Emile Hirsch. If you don't know some of the back story on getting this picture made, this article has a concise explanation and lots of great interviews with people who knew Milk. (NYT)

Punk to Legend: Going bald worked for Andre Agassi. But can it work for Andy Roddick? (Yahoo)
How Handy! A recent study has found a new way to examine pay disparities between men and women: Comparing the salaries of transgender employees before and after their gender changes. (I'm sure this worked really well, like transgender people aren't discriminated against more than women who were born female.) (The Canadian Press)
The Reluctant Activist: Ellen DeGeneres still hasn't made a campaign contribution against Prop 8, but on Tuesday she posted her video public service announcement urging Californians to oppose it on her show's Web site. She said when she got married it was the happiest day of her life. Personally, I don't think it's right for people to tell others how to spend their money, no matter how wealthy they are. But it would be nice. Meanwhile, her mother, Betty, has given $700 to help defeat the initiative. (AP)

When Socialites Attack: An heir to the French fashion house Hermes has been charged in federal court with attacking the captain of a jetliner en route to New York from Paris, grabbing the pilot’s crotch and trying to punch him. According to the charges, the man, Mathias Guerrand-Hermes, became so unruly aboard Air France Flight 008, which left Paris at 2:10 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday, that it took three flight attendants and the captain to restrain him. He was handcuffed, shackled and tied to a seat in first class after telling the pilot that he "would not behave!" (NYT)

What Happens in Dubai Doesn't Stay ... A Dubai judge on Thursday ordered a British couple jailed for three months for engaging in sex on a public beach this summer. (Seems a little stiff, but then again I guess they're lucky that's all they got.) (AP)
'Control' Issues: Janet Jackson is calling her recent illness that forced her to miss a bunch of shows "vertigo." I call it starving yourself to get ready for a concert tour. (AP)
