Weekend Tennis Roundup

Titles for Fonseca, Humbert, Kecmanovic and Anisimova. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW

Ultra Tiny Shorts

Ugo Humbert delivered an impressive display on Sunday to defeat Hamad Medjedovic 7-6(4), 6-4 and successfully defend his title at the indoor hard-court ATP 250 in Marseille. Although the 21-year-old Serbian came up a little short, he knocked out the No. 1 and 3 seeds, Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov, to reach his second ATP final, and secured his place in my heart. (Keep scrolling!)

Miomir Kecmanovic came back from the brink in Sunday's Delray Beach Open final, saving two match points and winning the last five games in a thrilling 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Although I was rooting for Kecmanovic, I must admit it was painful to watch the Spaniard come so close to winning his first title only to blow it. The Serbian claimed his second tour-level singles title and his first on hard courts by winning his 11th match of the 2025 ATP Tour season -- tied for most on Tour along with Alex de Minaur.

Superstar in the making Joao Fonseca capped a dream week in Buenos Aires on Sunday, defeating Francisco Cerundolo, 6-4, 7-6 (1), for his first ATP title. And with that triumph, the Brazilian teenager made history -- at 18, he’s the youngest Brazilian to win an ATP title in the Open era.

Guido Andreozzi and Theo Arribage won their first ATP Tour doubles title as a pair Sunday at the Argentina Open, beating Brazilian third seeds Rafael Matos and Marcelo Melo 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 in the final at the ATP 250.

Benjamin Bonzi and Pierre-Hugues Herbert defeated Sander Gillé and Jan Zieliński 6–3, 6–4 to win the doubles tennis title in Marseille. It was the first ATP Tour doubles title for Bonzi and 24th (and first since 2022) for Herbert.

Gillé and Zieliński were still cute

And on the women's side: Amanda Anisimova clinched the first WTA 1000 title of her career with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jelena Ostapenko in a rain-interrupted Qatar Open final on Saturday, a triumph achieved after a "lot of hard work and a lot of tears."

Although she came up short in the final, it was hilarious watching Ostapenko absolutely destroy Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur en route!

Especially when it leads to Tomas Machac winning and CURLING like this

Separated at birth: Richard Gere and Dusan Lajovic?

And last but not least:

It was nice to see Steve Johnson joining the Tennis Channel to call the Tsitsipas match against Medjedovic, who managed to pull it out in a third-set tiebreak despite what appeared to be an awful -- albeit titillating -- injury. (I predict he pulls out before his next match, adding to his injury woes.)
