Weekend Tennis Roundup

Titles for Nick Kyrgios, Daniil Medvedev, Daria Kasatkina and Liudmila Samsonova. Plus we met Hana Mandlikova's daughter and went cruising with Casper Ruud. Full report BELOW.

Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title of the season on Saturday when he defeated Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-0 to win the Abierto de Tenis Mifel in Los Cabos. The so-called World No. 1 did not drop a set all week at the Mexican ATP 250 event to earn his 14th tour-level trophy. It is the 26-year-old’s first triumph since last year’s U.S. Open.(!)

William Blumberg and Miomir Kecmanovic will never forget their team debut on the ATP Tour. The American-Serbian pair defeated fourth seeds Raven Klaasen and Marcelo Melo 6-0, 6-1 on Saturday to win Abierto de Tenis Mifel title in Los Cabos.

Nick Kyrgios cruised past Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4, 6-3 to win his second Citi Open title

The Aussie then captured the doubles title with partner Jack Sock, beating Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek 7-5, 6-4. With the victory, Kyrgios became the first player to sweep the singles and doubles titles in the 53-year history of the Citi Open.

Liudmila Samsonova earned her second career singles title on the Hologic WTA Tour with a comeback win in a big-hitting Citi Open final on Sunday, overcoming No.6 seed Kaia Kanepi 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. While I have a soft spot for the elderly Estonian, I was happy for the up-and-coming Russian, who in the end deserved to win.

In her first tournament since coming out, Daria Kasatkina captured her first title of the season at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, coming back to defeat No.45 Shelby Rogers 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday's final. When the WTA rankings are updated on Monday, the 25-year-old will return to the Top 10 for the first time since 2019.

And how great was it to see Daria celebrating with her partner?!

Did you catch Hana Mandlikova's test-tube daughter reaching the quarterfinals in Silicon Valley? She served for the match against Paula Badosa before fading away.

Her game reminded me more of Elena Svitolina's than her mom's, other than the mental collapse part
