Weekend Tennis Roundup

In a win for regularity, French Open favorites Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal claimed the trophies over the weekend. My full report from the world of tennis BELOW.

Rafael Nadal overwhelmed Casper Ruud in straight sets Sunday to win his 14th French Open championship, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0

The women's final was a similar contest with another surprise finalist losing to the overwhelming favorite, as Iga Swiatek outclassed Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday to win her second French Open crown and solidify her No. 1 status

El Salvador's Marcelo Arevalo became the first player from Central America to claim a Grand Slam title when he paired up with Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands to win the men's doubles final at the French Open on Saturday.

Arevalo and Rojer, seeded 12th, beat Croatian Ivan Dodig and American Austin Krajicek 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 6-3 after saving three match points and converting their only break chance.

It wasn't a complete loss, however, as Krajicek still looks like this

Kiki Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia come from a set down to beat Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to win the women's doubles title

And Japan’s Ena Shibahara and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands claimed their maiden Grand Slam title when they beat Norway’s Ulrikke Eikeri and Joran Vliegen of Belgium 7-6(5) 6-2 to win mixed doubles crown

The one good thing about Nadal's win is that it further marginalizes Pete Sampras, whose majors total equals what Nadal has won in Paris alone

I watched 1 game of Nadal's match against Felix- it drove me crazy- he faulted twice and hit 3 lets during game- of the 5 do over serves- he took the full 25 seconds to get ready- all he had done was serve once- and he went through the whole wipe down, butt picking, dick pulling prep! THAT'S why he plays 2 sets and it takes 3 hours! They need a new rule- you only get 10 seconds between 1st/2nd serve or after a let.
