Raising a Glass to Elaine Stritch

I muat confess that I've never seen Elaine Stritch in anything but Woody Allen's underwhelming film "September," yet I consider myself a huge fan. Which is why a documentary was the perfect vehicle for the Broadway legend -- SHE is what's so fascinating, not the material she performs, although I suppose theater lovers enjoy that too. "Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me" is "Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work" good. And while I learned tons about the fellow Detroit native, the thing that struck me most -- and may leave you haunted too -- is that I have never seen what it means to be an alcoholic so vividly and honestly depicted, even in real life.
