Who Shot JR's Wad?

OK, this might end up being like that moment when I first realized my brother Bill was kind of a "Junior" -- my dad is named Bill, too, but I only made the connection a couple years ago(!). (In my defense, we didn't grow up with Dad, and he technically didn't have a middle name, whereas my brother did.) But I heard Jordana Brewster on "Chelsea Lately" last night promoting the "Dallas" reboot, and in the course of the interview they discussed how the LGBT scene in Dallas is huge -- and that they even have gay bars named after J.R. and Sue Ellen. Really???????

I've been going to the JR's in Washington since 1989 and this is the first time I've heard someone mention it was named after JR Ewing. (I was aware of the Texas locations, and even went to the one in Houston once when my connecting flight to L.A. got canceled!) Did I somehow miss the boat completely on this? It certainly wouldn't be the first time ...

Lived in DC 30 years, 5+ of that 1/2 block from JR's, done every gay bar here, and most of the gay men too. NEVER heard the Ewing connection..... I too am surprised.

News to me too! Although, I guess it could be plausible... since it began in Dallas, right? Hmm...

I thought it was "Junior's" because of the placement of the "." after the "R" - and not one after the "J" also. If it is in fact "J.R.'s" their sign is grammatically incorrect? Well I guess it is either way because it would have to be a lower case "r" to be "Junior's"

I'd have to ask someone at Caven whether J.R. Ewing was the intended namesake when it opened in 1980. Their website uses Jr's, JR's and JR.'s. Sue Ellen's opened in 89. The odd use of punctuation may have been intentional so the owners of the "Dallas" TV show could not claim infringement. During the 80's we still had to fly under the radar...

Been going to JRs in both DC and Dallas since '90 and yes, name is connected to show. DC Jrs - some of my best memories with friends - Friday nights; JRs, then on to Badlands to dance....Jrs still great place to see people you've known for years in an otherwise transient city.
