Kinda fitting that I should learn about a concert featuring three great acts from the '80s and '90s -- the Psychedelic Furs, Lemonheads and Juliana Hatfield -- via a poster on the street.this week! (I should have rounded it out by calling Ticketmaster, but opted to go online.)
I'm going mostly for the Furs -- one of my all-time favorite bands -- but I have had my flirtations with Evan Dano and Juliana. "The Outdoor Type" boasts one of the best lines in the history of pop music -- "I can't go away with you on a rock climbing weekend / What if something's on TV and it's never shown again?" -- which is to say nothing of "Big Gay Heart." And I nearly got killed going to see the former Blake Baby at Hammerjacks in Baltimore in the mid-'90s when my friend Paul's car suddenly started spinning around on the BW Parkway thanks to black ice. (The mosh pit seemed rather tame after that!) Hope to see some of you at the Best Buy Theater (formerly the Nokia) tomorrow night. Tickets available HERE. I've got my beard trimmer out, so I'll be the new wave geek trying to fit in behind the goatee and the plaid shirt, realizing even that's 20 years old now!
