Susanna Hoffs' 'Someday' Set for July 17 Release

Great news for Susanna Hoffs fans. That mysterious solo album we've been hearing about forever finally has an official release date. Fittingly titled "Someday," Sue's first solo album in 16 years (ouch) will drop July 17, via Welk Music Group. Mrs. Roach tells Icon vs. Icon that the album (big surprise) is a love letter to the music of the 1960s, and was produced and orchestrated by the revered Mitchell Froom, who has worked with everyone from Elvis Costello and Sheryl Crow to Crowded House and Paul McCartney. “This album was inspired by my yearning to sing songs that were as melodic and emotional as my favorite music of the 1960s,” Susanna said. “We recorded 10 original songs, eight of which I wrote in a flurry over a period of a few months with Andrew Brassell. He’s a 27-year-old musician from Nashville, who’s been on the indie club scene there since he was a teenager. So the project started with me, this talented boy from Nashville, two guitars and a reverb pedal.” Titles include "This Is the Place" (a tourism jingle for South Walton? see below), "Picture Me," "Raining" (which she wrote with Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers back in 1989) and "November Sun," a song written for a solo album that was put on hold when the Bangles reunited in the early 2000s. After being teased with one of the album's tracks at Starbucks recently, three months seems like a long time to wait. But seeing as it's been less than a year since the Bangles' "Sweetheart of the Sun" came out, I will try to be patient.

While the song is ok (maybe not stellar), it is more palatable than anything on "Sweetheart of the Sun".

I'd say that was an unlistenable ablum, until I go to Hoff & Matthew Sweet's "Under the Covers vol 2". Horrid.

I have better hopes for this solo disk.

You obviously just don't know how to understand and absorb the sun-ray that I call Susanna

You obviously are missing the sun-rays that the rest of us know and love as Susanna. I think Sweetheart of the Sun Needs a little extra listen time, but, the Undercover series with Matthew sweet are flat out awesome. Where's you love for the style? You don't have fun listening to her being raspy in Maggie Mae? Go Sid N Susie!!! Let's get a third undercover out! Hopefully we also see a tour for "Someday" Plz Plz.....
