Music Box: Susanna Hoffs + Starbucks

Was certain they were playing new Susanna Hoffs music in Starbucks the other day -- I LOVE Susanna Hoffs! -- but knew better than to ask the staff about it, as I knew they'd be useless. (Someone else eventually did, but they looked at her like she was crazy.) Sure enough, I found a post Sue had written about the music on her Facebook page -- she, it seems, was as surprised as anyone by the news: hi everyone- i just found out that starbucks is playing songs from my new unreleased solo record! i am working very hard towards an official release of the album, but in the meantime consider this a sneak peek :) here are the song titles so you'll know it's me.... November Sun Always Enough Picture Me One Day Holding My Breath All I Need Raining Regret This is the Place True i hope you enjoy my new music, and if you are so inclined, let me know -- or feel free to tweet about it @Starbucks xoxo

Susanna
This was great news, indeed, and completely unexpected for a number of reasons. For one, the Bangles just had a new album out less than six months ago. But it's even more surprising seeing as, Susanna has had not one, but two solo albums that never saw the light of day before -- the original sophomore LP known to megafans as "The Wallace Album," plus a batch of songs from around 2000 that was put on the back burner when the Bangles reunited for "Doll Revolution." Fortunately, the only song title I recognize (and, of course, already have) is "November Sun," so this truly a new album. The fact that Starbucks has it yet she doesn't seen ti gave an actual means of distribution is disconcerting. But something tells me this one has a better chance than the other two "lost" albums of coming out --for those keeping score at home, that's two released and two unreleased, not counting the new one -- and hooray for that!!!!
Here's one from the first album. I had recently moved to L.A. when this came out and didn't have cable for a couple years. Maybe that's why I'm just now seeing this "Unconditional Love" video for the first time tonight. The second one is her live cover of Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love" -- what a beauty!

No one ever mentions that Cyndi Lauper came out w "Unconditional Love" almost a year earlier. Lauper actually pulls it off better.

I heard "Picture Me" at Starbucks yesterday and asked someone there if they had an actual CD of hers. He went in the back and came out with an Andrew Bird CD. Go figure.
