Lip Service

Via La Daily Musto: A fascinating montage of famous movie songs featuring the vocals of unfamous singers. We all know about Debbie Reynolds in "Singin' in the Rain," Natalie Wood in "West Side Story" and Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady," but wait'll you see which other superstars didn't do their own singing. (One's a famous singer!)

Actress & singer Dorothy Dandridge gets dubbed in "Porgy and Bess", and is later portrayed by a lip-syncing Halle Berry... Rich.

So aren't there at least three singers who were dubbed? Rossano Brazzi, Harry Belafonte and Dorothy Dandridge

And dammit, I had successfully erased the odious Lost Horizon from my memory until watching this.

This was fun!

Dorothy Dandridge also got dubbed in Carmen Jones, by opera singer Marilyn Horne.

I remember reading once that although Marni Nixon dubbed Deborah Kerr in "The King and I," "Getting to Know You," was actually the one song in the movie that Kerr sang herself.
