Being a child of the '80s, I can't think of too many things more fun than a night out on the town with my guy at a Hall and Oates tribute concert. About the only way it could be better would be for my ticket money to be given to charity -- and on Sunday night, that's exactly what went down, when the fun cast of "Jersey Boys" assembled at the Living Room on the Lower East Side for a benefit show for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Taylor Sternberg (a swing in the Broadway mega hit) hosted the event -- including an auction for a signed poster and photo with the cast that I got outbid on by an Ashley Holmes lookalike -- and Miles Aubrey (who plays Norm Waxman) was the band's musical director.
Aubrey was also the show's lead guitarist and performed a rousing cover of "Sara Smile," as well as rescuing a few people out on some missed lyrics. (They'd hardly had any time to rehearse, although you never know it except for a few minor slips.)
Dominic Nolfi (Tommy DeVito) opened the show with a sexy cover of "Maneater," then came back later for a playful duo of "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" with host Sternberg. Peter Gregus brought a Johnny Mathis cool to "Say It Isn't So," Brad Bass (swing) delivered the white-man soul on "Rich Girl," while Erik Bates (Hank Majewski) meant business on the plaintive "Family Man." Dominic Scaglione (a fill-in Frankie) and John Edwards (Hal Miller) dazzled on "She's Gone" (the highlight of the evening),and Sara Schmidt had local dogs howling during the high notes of "Private Eyes." (Oh, my!)
Jarrod Spector (Frankie Valli) got the crowd moving in its seats on "Kiss On My List," (which he mentioned came out the year he was born -- 1981 -- ouch!). At some point the memory stick filled on my camera (my own stupidity), so I don't have clips of (or remember) everything else, but suffice to say dream were made to come true -- and all for a great cause!

I wish I would've been there for this! Jersey Boys and Hall & Oates! Amazing!
I hate Ashley Holmes sooooo much that I feel hatred towards the lookalike you mentioned. }:-(
