The 'Heat' Was On

From today's Getting Old Sucks file: Came across Playgirl's Sexiest Men of 1981 issue recently and couldn't agree more with their inclusion of William Hurt, who was riding hot from his sizzling performance in the neo-noir classic "Body Heat." (Read HERE.)

(And what was up 1981? Between Hurt smashing a chair through the French doors to get to Kathleen Turner and Jack Nicholson raping taking Jessica Lange in the remake of "The Postman Always Rings Twice" ...

If this is what you get for not answering the door, remind me to remove the buzzer.

No one had to sign for this package.

... I'm almost convinced it was the sexiest year on record and not just my 14-year-old hormones working overtime!)

I'll bet if you could find two young people who even know who Bill Hurt and Kathleen Turner are they would never believe that they were once two of the sexiest stars alive.

This, mind you, is in no way a dig. Everyone ages, albeit some more gracefully than others, and they both look fine for their age, 61 and 57, respectively. It's just in their case they had so much further to fall.

CTV showed The Accidental Tourist (1988) this weekend, broken relationship and without the heat. Our youth obsession in North America deprives us of some great story-telling opportunities; the UK seems to be more accommodating. I love watching Maggie Smith in Ladies in Lavender (or Harry P.) just as much as in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (and she has imdb entries for almost every year since 1955!). Betty White and....

Sweat NEVER looked so sexy as in Body Heat...that movie still makes me sizzle!

And speaking of aging gracefully, it's rather shocking to watch the young Mickey Rourke in B.H., and then picture him today....
