Quid Pro Homo

While I know the gay vote must have made some kind of a difference in the 2008 presidential election, I can't help but fantasize what it would feel like if it meant more, like in the current mayoral race in Atlanta.

The L.A. Times reports: A neck-and-neck mayoral runoff pitting a black man against a white woman has spurred some intense discussions about race and politics in the South's most important city.

But in recent days, the two campaigns have also turned their attention to a demographic beyond race that may ultimately sway Tuesday's election: the gay vote.

It's been fascinating to read how this election has proceeded. I grew up in the suburbs on the east side of Atlanta and though I'm now in Phoenix, I'll be moving back in February after just over six years in the desert.

District Six is the Gayborhood in Atlanta and it's been the contentious swing district in many city elections. The final turnout is really going to be interesting to see tomorrow (and I would expect, into Wednesday morning).

You have to give some credit it to Mary Norwood.. She showed up at Burkharts last night during a drag show and gave a speech. Not easy to do with a 6' 2 Drag queen in heels standing next to you!
