Capital Gains

Mom and me in 1987: I cannot tell a lie, that's one fucked up omelet on my head

Hey, everyone. So my long-overdue week off began yesterday and, as I mentioned, I'm off to D.C. this afternoon for the weekend. I'm bummed my guy isn't coming along -- he's too bogged down in the early stages of his new real estate career (there's soooo much to do and learn) -- but I'm very excited to see my parents and my nephew, A.J. (all in from Arizona), plus my brothers and some old friends down there. Tomorrow night, after we all have dinner at his in-laws' new place in Silver Spring, Bill and I are seeing X at the 9:30 Club, a band I haven't seen live since 1983 when I saw them with -- you guessed it -- my brother Bill, at the Devil House in Tempe, Ariz. (Thank god for all-ages shows!)

Over the weekend, we hope to impress A.J. with all of the museums and monuments around the nation's capital. (I promised him it's even better than Legoland!) On a more somber note, we'll be visiting my (infant) brother Kevin's grave at Arlington (and my dad's, who joined him in 2005). This is, of course, a usual stop for my family. But my mom mentioned the visit's added importance to her as Kevin would have been 50 years old on his next birthday, something that blew my mind and somehow made his mysterious death seem even sadder. (I could tell it really shook her up too, poor thing.)

My friend Frank Anthony Polito has graciously offered to post some stuff in my absence. (I know he has a "Land of the Lost" story you'll enjoy.) The site for his just-released new novel, "Drama Queers," is now up (click HERE) and looks fabulous, thanks to Mark in the (714).

I'll be checking in later, holding my breath until Roger finally wins in Paris ...

Have a good weekend,

I hope real estate is better for Michael out there than it is back here in your hometown!

I've been working in real estate here since 1990.. Never seen it this bad.
