The AP reports that yesterday's Day Without a Gay protest, during which employees were encouraged to "call in gay" to express support for same-sex marriage, drew spotty participation nationwide Wednesday, with some gay rights activists praising the concept but questioning its effect. The SF Chronicle reports only scattered support in the Bay Area (I know of no one participating here in New York), with several gay and lesbian people saying they couldn't afford to take the day off, particularly in a tightening economy where many are concerned about their jobs. it seemed the MOST un-gay thing to do. we're always the ones who go the extra mile, pitch in, are better than anyone else in the workplace at everything ... some friends and i were talking and thought it would have been better to wear a sash or something to make ourselves visible, not INvisible. showing up is what we do.
There's not a chance in hell I'm gonna let my boss think he can survive a day without me. Given the current economy and the fact I'm in the building industry, I'm lucky to have a job.
