James at 15 16

Despite what I said earlier, not all anonymous commenters are total jackasses. Much to my delight, my "James at 15" post earlier this week warmed a lot of people's hearts, including one nameless reader who reminded me that the theme song actually changed when James turned 16 (see above; I'd completely forgotten about this second-season theme song, England John and Dan Ford Coley's "It's All Up to You" although the scene where Kim Richards stops to talk to a boy completely came rushing back to me the second I saw it!). As I recall, things focused more on his friendships with Marlene Mahoney (Susan Myers), Ludwig "Sly" Hazeltine (David Hubbard), and Kathy Hunter (Deirdre Berthrong), which I really liked. My friend Frank pointed me to a site that has bootlegs of the complete series (and the movie from which it was spawned). I'll keep you posted if I cave in and buy 'em!

Lust to love for Lance Kerwin

I was under the impression that all queens of a certain age had a crush on Kerwin. Mine was really bad because I shared a first name with his fictional character.

It's so cool to see Kim Richards in the credits. I was a huge fan from the Escape to Witch Mountain movies.

Did you realize that she's Paris Hilton's aunt? Her sister is Kathy Richards Hilton. Fun fact for the day.

Any gay man between the ages of 40 and 47 probably has something very interesting to say about his memories of "James at 15/16." These posts have brought a lot of memories and thoughts rushing back. Fun..sort of!

My crush was on Brian Kerwin, who I always assumed (incorrectly I believe) was Lance's brother. Researching that point, I came across this about Lance on imdb:

(May 2004) After many checkings in & out of rehabs, for drugs or alcohol problems during his teens and 20s, he is finally cleaned and sober. Most recently, he's a newly converted christian and as of May 2004 is an indoctrined new Priest/Minister.

I don't know if you've seen this Retrocrush interview with Kerwin. It's interesting. http://retrocrush.buzznet.com/archive2004/james

My verbatim memory without benefit of reviewing the bootleg DVDs ...

Sly: "Where you comin' from, man?"

James (in almost Jimmy Stewart mode): "We- wel- well, from Oregon!"

And dont forget Salems Lot...he had that California golden hair with a tan. I was 15 and I knew that was what I wanted. Then the closet ensued.
