Photo Flashback: 1985

It was in a hardware store in Royal Oak, Mich., back in the summer of '85 when the spirit of Madonna's debut LP overcame me. Was it a chemical reaction? You be the judge ...

Not kidding—I own that chain and also the bronze-colored metallic bracelet that Madonna originally wore. I'm not usually into collecting items stars wore, but her stylist Maripol had an underpublicized eBay auction several years ago and I got those items and tons more great stuff, including her notebook that had original "Like a Virgin" video sketches and REALLY INTERESTINGLY degraded Polaroids (they were degraded because Maripol cut them out, something you know you're not supposed to do with Polaroids, but they look amazing anyway). PS Your girl Chelsea went fairly easy on the gross Chris Ciccone but she didn't wanna dwell on the facelift joke because she's had one! (Am I the only one to notice how dramatically tighter her face got after her Oxygen comedy show? This is not an insult, she looks terrif. Just sayin'!)

There is a bittersweetness to the fact that I was too poor to have a camera in those early Madonna years, or everyone would for sure be seeing very unfortunate, yet very spectacular photos from my madonna wannabe days. Somehow I was able to afford a camera around the time her sex book came out though. Here's hoping those never see the light of day!
