It Runs in the Family ...

This is one of my favorite photos from the family archives. That's my grandfather Mickey Walsh at the typewriter cranking out one of his sports columns for the Pottsville Republican circa February 1938, as Jim Watson, a mystery man and Jack Rupert look on. My grandfather died long before I was born, but nearly 70 years later three of his grandsons (my brothers Bill and Terence -- and yours truly) all make our living as newsmen, something I'd like to think makes him smile from above.

Looks like we both share the same interest in our respective family histories. I have a number of photographs from my Great-Grandmother (who died in 1997 at the age of 94). Included in the collection is a tintype of my Great-Great-Great-Grandfather William Carr, who at one point owned 160 acre farm here in Muskegon County, Michigan.

I think knowing where you come from helps you understand yourself in some ways.
