In Our Hearts

Tom and David, March on Washington (1993)

9:43 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, sending up a huge plume of smoke. Evacuation begins immediately. (CNN)

Today we mark the five-year anniversary of a day that changed the world. We all lost a lot on Sept. 11, 2001,, but no amount of evil can wipe away the smile I get when I think of our pal David Charlebois on the sawhorse. I know you're smiling too, Ken.

Left to right: Michael Horowitz, Tom Hay (David's boyfriend) and David (striped shirt and sunglasses hugging someone I don't know) during the March on Washington in 1993, shortly after we became friends.

I used to live on that block of Swann Street. I never chatted with David but remember seeing him go to work in his pilot uniform.
