Weekend Tennis Roundup

In a Masters 1000 tournament that featured Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas, I don't think anyone saw Andrey Rublev coming away on top. But that's just what the oddly endearing Russian did in Monte Carlo. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Andrey Rublev clinched his first ATP Masters 1000 title on Sunday when he overcame teenager Holger Rune 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters final. In a clash between two of the biggest ball-strikers on the ATP Tour, it was the fifth seed who prevailed on a sunbathed Court Rainier III.

Rublev struck 33 winners and rallied from 1-4 in the third set to earn the 13th and biggest title of his career after two hours and 34 minutes. Rublev sealed victory with his fifth ace of the match, dropping to the court in celebration.

Felt for the new bad boy of tennis, who also blew a big lead against the Russian in Melbourne. But at just 19 he has plenty of time to figure it out

Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek captured their first ATP Masters 1000 crown as a team Sunday when they saved two match points to overcome Monegasque-Austrian wild cards Romain Arneodo and Sam Weissborn 6-0, 4-6, 14-12 at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters

Not bad!

Andrea Vavassori has cute friends ... including the one at the top of the post.

Congrats to Team USA for qualifying for the Billie Jean King Cup finals, along with Czech Republic, Spain, Kazakhstan, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Slovenia

I was tickled to see Andrea Jaeger sitting with BJK, wife Ilana Kloss, Rosie Casals and broadcasting veteran Lesley Visser at the tie versus Austria. I'm never sure what fellow players think of the former wunderkind, especially after her recent (but much-ignored) claims that she was sexually harassed by a WTA employee as a teenage girl
