Song of the Day: 'One Word' (Chris Cox Radio Mix) by Kelly Osbourne

I haven't had much use for any of the Osbournes since their strangely fascinating reality show went off the air in 2005. So you can forgive me -- and my complete disconnect from pop culture -- for only recently learning about this hypnotic single by the brood's youngest member. (Damian played it recently, having learned about it from his "going out" days.) If both the song and video seem a little too good to be true, there's an explanation. The song was similar enough to the iconic 1980 Visage hit "Fade to Grey" that writer Linda Perry agreed to fork over royalties -- it's particularly noticeable on the album version, which is slower than the single and largely in spoken-word French -- and the video was inspired by the recently deceased director Jean-Luc Godard's "Alphaville," the film Debbie Harry and Chris Stein wanted to remake with Robert Fripp only to find out Godard "sold" them the rights without actually owning them!

I used to go to Friday night Happy Hour with a former coworker and they used to play this video. There was a narrow hallway at our job and we used to strut down it singing, "it's not the way that I want it, it's just the way that I need it..." while brushing the walls. Good times. I miss that old coworker.
