Song of the Day: 'An Old-Fashioned Love Song' by Three Dog Night

A friend got me in a Three Dog mood by sharing "Mama Told Me Not to Come." (I've always been a "Shambala" girl.) This, in turn, got me digging deeper, leading me to this gem by Paul Williams, who apparently wrote it for the Carpenters only to have (bitchy) Richard turn it down. (It totally sounds like a Carpenters song!) A little digging around shows the brother-sister duo did perform it once in 1971 with Carol Burnett on her show, although they never recorded it. Williams, of course, wrote "We've Only Just Begun" and "Rainy Days and Mondays," two of the Carpenters' biggest hits.

Bitchy Richard! I was unaware that this was written for the Carpenters but I can totally hear it now. Thanks for posting!
