Song of the Day: 'King Tut' by Steve Martin

For me, King Tut was a particular highlight of my trip to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. I grew up with a Steve Martin-loving big brother who introduced me to all the cool stuff when I was a kid, so visiting the tomb felt like a blast from my ancient past. Damian, who is 10 years my junior, had never heard of the Tut mania that swept the U.S. in the late ‘70s -- who remembers when “Treasures of Tutankhamun” toured America to sellout crowds? -- including this classic single, which hit No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100  back in 1978.

P.S.

Have you ever read something more Gen Y/Z than this critique of Martin’s novelty hit?!!! Tutankhamun wasn’t born in Arizona. He didn’t move to “Babylonia.” He wasn’t a honky. And he wasn’t buried with a donkey. So I am not sure how seriously anyone should be taking this ... plus how can you "appropriate" a culture that no longer exists? ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜œ

Kids. Not happy unless they can whine about some imagined slight.
