And speaking of killing: Did anyone see the "Evil Lives Here" episode about Peter Avsenew? His poor mother is interviewed and you hear about what a nightmare he was as a boy and young man. Then in like the last two seconds you come to find out he murdered an adorable gay couple -- Kevin Powell and Stephen Adams -- who had allowed Avsenew to move into their Wilton Manors, Fla., home after paying for his escort services on Craigslist. I realize the episode wasn't really about *that* -- but boy could it have stood to be, um, fleshed out a bit.
Mom referred to her husband -- Peter's stepfather -- as being "useless" in helping her displine the kid, but nary a mention of reports that Peter says the stepfather sexually abused him as a boy. For the sicko's part, he had fathered a child with an ex-girlfriend and in a remorseless letter to the judge wrote: "It is my duty as a white man to cull the weak and timid from existence. Homosexuals are a disease to mankind and must be put down."
Avsenew was sentenced to death for the execution-style murders and remains on Florida's death row.
