On the Rag, Vol. 663

A weekly look at what's making news in the gay magazines:

Get Out: Since trying to make Gay Pride 2021 more inclusive is a goal we all share, I thought it worth mentioninig that I've never felt 'connected' to any Pride event I've ever attended over the past 30-plus years, which appear to cater to guys on steroids gym bunnies wearing tank tops. (Like most people, at least I can find some pleasure in gawking.) Not sure if that will make anyone feel less alone or simply depress people, but that's just how it is.

right with you on the pride thing. the only time i've even felt connected was when i blew a kiss to eleanor holmes norton as she rode in a convertible during a DC pride event many years ago as it passed my condo building on 17th st NW. she blew one back. that's pretty much it.

Not sure this year will be possible, but I got to every March and wander from float to float photographing, and in so doing get to see all the people waving on the sidelines. I find it incredibly powerful, unifying and diverse, the exact opposite of the stereotype about gym bunnies. Actually, I feel like the floats are less sexed-up than they used to be in, say, the '90s or '00s. But that's me.
