Weekend Tennis Roundup

Hey, everyone! It's Labor Day and since I'm actually having to work my "day" job, I decided to take the day off from my blog ... almost. Couldn't not post about another glorious outing to the U.S. Open with my fellow tennis freak and No. 1 seed, Damian. We've been alternating each year between Ashe Stadium and grounds passes, and opted for a grounds pass this year on Saturday with a little help from Scott and Eddie. (Thanks, guys!)

We started by rushing over to see our World Team Tennis fave Jonny O'Mara, who was playing doubles with Marcelo Arevalo against Mate Pavic and Bruno Soares, who is the big Croatian's new partner since separating with hunky blond daddy Oliver Marach.

Pavic is as dreamy in person as he is on TV ...

And made a nice pair with Soares, who used to play with Jamie Murray.

But in the end they were no match for Jonny's big keister.

Judy Murray, who probably knows the O'Mara (who lives in Scotland) and Bruno (from his days with Jamie) stopped by to check out the action. I wanted to confront her about how mean she is to Duncan, but controlled myself.

On the court next to the match was this specimen practicing ... driving us wild. (He's got it down pat!)

From there we caught Victoria Azarenka and Ash Barty against Abigail Spears and Nadiia Kichenok. Ash looked off throughout the match -- and then wound up getting knocked out of singles the next day by Wang Qiang -- but Azarenka carried them over the finish line. It looks like they won again yesterday and will now play American teen sensations Coco Gauff and Caty McNally, who gave Serena Williams something to think about in the second round of singles.

Sadly, Vika wasn't able to serenade anyone this year ...

From there we saw KIT212 favorite Robert Farah (and Juan Sebastian Cabal) defeat KIT212 favorite Cameron Norrie (hubba hubba) and (Council Flat trash poster boy) Dan Evans. Farah was on fire on the court ...

And after. (I was in the bathroom when Damian stalked this photo down!)

And then it was time for the main event., when we got courtside seats to watch Matteo Berrettini on Court 17.

He started out very strongly against Aussie qualifier Alexei Popyrin.

But after taking a two-set lead, he lost the third in a tiebreak. And then things got tense in the fourth -- with Popyrin having multiple set points -- before the Italian stallion was finally able to clinch it 7 points to 2.

In addition to being strikingly handsome -- after seeing him in the flesh I'd now put him in the same league as Coric and Khachanov -- he was wearing the most flattering outfit I have seen in years. Lotto sponsors many of the second- and third-tier players. But the skin-tight shirt and translucent white shorts -- which when sweaty essentially allowed us to see Matteo playing in his skimpy black briefs -- made him look like World Number One.

Oh, and did I mention he changed mid-match?

Afterward he confessed to being exhausted -- definitely because of his young opponent's strong play. Yet he stayed to sign autographs and take photos with every single person who asked ...

including this little guy, who didn't seem to be appreciating the special attention he was getting from Matteo nearly as much as I would have. (This guy's got a future in politics!)

And lastly, we also took a quit jaunt over to see Michael Venus -- Damian's dream daddy -- and Chan Hao-ching, who defeated Joe Salisbury and fellow ASU Sun Devil Desirae Krawczyk. It wasn't clear why, but Desirae went off on Michael during the post-match handshake -- and continued to vent about him as she left the court, sarcastically calling the New Zealander a "class act." (Anyone know what prompted this?)

We also checked out Jamie Murray (Damian's other boyfriend) and white-trash poster girl Bethanie Mattek-Sands against hunky Jamie Peers and Zhang Shuai. The defending champs won, as did Damian when Andy's big bro bent down in this position.

P.S.

Photo bomber Diego Schwartzman should be interviewed about doing God’s work, aka exposing Tennys Sandgren.

Saw this coming ...

but Stan was due for a break.

Read the court, kween ...

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day. Will be back to regular posting tomorrow!

Nothing on festering douchebag Medvedev??? Is Stan still with that teenager he left his wife and new born child for? The tennis powers that be are in danger of turning Coco G into the next Capriati (the early years) OVER EXPOSURE! Showing her 2nd round doubles match on TV while 4th round singles matches were being played- NOT GOOD! Hell- listening to Pam Shriver commentate- when they NEVER showed her and Martina play doubles on TV- Including the year they won the Grand Slam.
